It is amazing what happens when you start with something average and turn it into great—OK, phenomenal. Or when your car is already perfect, and you do all you can to keep it that way. The true spiritual leaders of the world—as well as Mr. Miyagi, have always known, that to be truly happy you have to take time to let go of the past, not think about the future, and live in the present. What the Hell does this have to do with detailing a car? A lot. When you are working intensely on any task, and you can feel and see the results of your efforts, you are living in the present. The physical act of waxing, cleaning, and detailing keeps your mind focused on the “here and now” and has an uncanny ability to push problems aside.

Transformation is art and detailing is precisely that: taking a large project and breaking it down into the smallest details. Just getting started is very empowering. As you watch the real beauty of your car and think about all the people it took to make this machine a reality, it becomes far more than metal, leather, and plastic—it takes on a life of its own, it will have a soul. And that’s where the satisfaction starts to take hold. It’s more than the sum of its parts; it is, in fact, a work of art. It is the physical manifestation of your vision of what something can become.

We usually do not wax philosophical (pun intended) like this. As a matter of fact, we are generally far more light-hearted, joking and laughing at things that are taken too seriously. However, over the years we have found that doing what we love and making cars look incredible has given us some amazing peace of mind, as well as a few shots of dopamine. Even when things seem to be a total “shit show,” turning back to our passion gives us purpose and the courage to face some of our hardest problems. We cannot tell you how many people roll their eyes at us when we share this information, but we have never felt the need to argue or tell them they are wrong. We simply go back and stay true to ourselves, turning half-ass cars into things of beauty.

So next time you are feeling burned out, pissed off, or find yourself wondering “why,” grab a towel (microfiber, of course) and head out to the garage and make a set of rims look like new, bring some leather back to life, or do some rubbing on your paint, and you will know the truth. However, if it turns out we were wrong, there is always bourbon. No sense in being un-reasonable 🙂 Enjoy what you have achieved and be grateful for what you have.
